President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose tenure, largely considered to be luminous, ends on 31 July 2026.

The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Aina, who turns 40 in July, is a professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University. He is regarded as one of the youngest to attain the rank in the field and will become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, and a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He also completed a Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

According to the statement, Aina has over 15 years of experience spanning digital systems, examination administration and public-sector reform. He previously worked with JAMB during his National Youth Service, an experience said to have shaped his contributions to examination system development and optimisation.

He has also served as a consultant to major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council, NECO, and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, NABTEB, advising on ICT systems, examination integrity and digital transformation.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina’s expertise would further strengthen JAMB’s operations and build on the achievements of his predecessor.

Aina is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, IEEE, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology, IET.
