The NNPC Foundation has commissioned and handed over a fully installed 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging, MRI, system to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, NOH, Dala, Kano State, to expand access to advanced diagnostic care.
The donation on Thursday is part of NNPC Ltd’s broader corporate social responsibility push to strengthen medical infrastructure and reduce the burden on patients who previously traveled long distances or faced long waits for MRI services.
According to the NNPC Foundation, the new equipment will support diagnosis and treatment of orthopaedic, neurological, trauma, musculoskeletal and gynaecological conditions. Before the intervention, patients in the region often struggled with high costs, limited availability, and delayed care due to lack of functional MRI facilities nearby.
Speaking at the ceremony in Kano, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, represented by Managing Director of NNPC Foundation Mrs Emmanuella Arukwe, said the project aligns with the company’s goal of delivering sustainable social impact.
“At NNPC Limited, we are intentional about ensuring that our social investments are impactful, sustainable, and beneficial to the communities we serve. Through the NNPC Foundation, we would continue to implement interventions that create measurable social value across Nigeria,” he said.
Mrs Sophia Mbakwe, Executive Vice President Business Services, NNPC Ltd, represented by Executive Director Program Management at the Foundation Mrs Rose Okonkwo, said the company’s role extends beyond oil production. She noted the intervention targets underserved and vulnerable patients who rely on NOH Dala for specialized care in Kano, the North-West, and beyond.
Kano State Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Commissioner for Health Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, described the donation as a major milestone for early and accurate diagnosis in the region.
