Major General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), held separate meetings with the governors of Zamfara and Plateau States on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
The Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, reported that the governor of Zamfara State, His Excellency Dr Dauda Lawal, visited to congratulate the CDS on his well-deserved appointment and to discuss the prevailing security situation in Zamfara.
Governor Lawal emphasized that the security challenges in Zamfara were hindering meaningful development and making governance nearly impossible.
He believed that confronting these challenges head-on would greatly contribute to resolving the issues plaguing the entire region.
The governor expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the troops on the grounds and called for the deployment of additional troops and logistical support to bolster security.
He also urged for increased funding for the Armed Forces and stressed the importance of collaboration between the local communities and security agencies in the state.
In response, the CDS expressed solidarity with the people of Zamfara and assured them of the Defence Headquarters’ readiness to provide all necessary security assistance to the state.
He pledged to ensure that the troops remained highly capable and emphasized the need to enhance synergy between the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and other security agencies.
Likewise, the governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Muftwang, also visited the CDS to congratulate him on his appointment.
He acknowledged Major General Musa’s professionalism and highlighted the critical timing of his appointment, given the worsening security challenges in the state.
The governor expressed his unwavering belief in the CDS’s ability to make a positive impact by leveraging his experience to address the security issues in Plateau State.
He commended the efforts of the AFN and paid tribute to the fallen heroes.
Governor Muftwang called for increased efforts to tackle the security situation in the state.
Addressing the Plateau governor and his delegation, Major General Musa reassured them that the AFN was determined and committed to restoring peace in Plateau State.
He expressed his condolences to the governor for the unnecessary loss of lives in the state and emphasized the importance of understanding the root causes of the problems.
He also stressed the need to involve all stakeholders in finding lasting solutions to the crisis that has been afflicting the state.
