The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, visited Zamfara State on September 13, 2024, as part of his ongoing efforts to address insecurity in the region.

During a meeting at the Government House in Gusau, General Musa expressed gratitude to Governor Dauda Lawal for his support of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and other security agencies.

He also commended the noticeable development in the state over the past year.
General Musa noted the positive outlook of Zamfara’s residents despite ongoing security challenges and assured the governor of the military’s commitment to restoring peace, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s mandate.

He also pledged to provide security for farmers to ensure uninterrupted agricultural activities and ease current economic hardships.

The CDS emphasized the importance of community cooperation, urging residents not to collaborate with bandits but instead to provide security agencies with vital information to help eliminate criminal activities.

He announced a strategic change in the Defence Headquarters’ operations in the state, renaming the operation-to-Operation FANSAN YAMMA and upgrading it to a theater command for better coordination.

General Musa highlighted President Tinubu’s approval for the deployment of additional military platforms to strengthen the fight against banditry and pledged to collaborate with state security agencies.

He acknowledged that community support is essential for achieving lasting peace.

While addressing the troops of the 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, who successfully ambushed and neutralized scores of terrorists earlier in the day, General Musa encouraged them to maintain a winning mindset, stating that “machines don’t fight wars; humans do.”

He also promised to enhance their welfare and provide the necessary tools for success.

In response, Governor Lawal thanked General Musa for his commitment, noting that the CDS’s road trip from Abuja to Zamfara signaled a high level of dedication.

He praised the general’s leadership and expressed confidence that the new measures would bring lasting peace to the state.

In a separate development, the Sector One Joint Task Force (NW) Operation Hadarin Daji conducted an ambush along Gusau-Funtua Road, neutralizing 40 terrorists, including notorious kingpin Halilu Buzu, and recovering arms and motorcycles.
