The Zamfara State Special Modified Medical Outreach Programme has launched a new phase targeting 350 additional patients, introducing uterine prolapse surgeries as part of a significant expansion of its healthcare services for women with complex medical conditions.

Prof. Isma’il Mungadi, chairman of the outreach committee, is personally leading and performing the surgeries in the current phase.

The programme, which operated across the state’s 14 local government areas between August 2023 and November 2025, carried out 4,795 surgical procedures for 4,185 patients and provided free treatment for hypertension and diabetes to more than 1,200 residents during the period.

Authorities said the outreach addressed conditions including vesicovaginal fistula, cataracts, groin swellings and other surgical cases, among them rare conditions such as intersex anomalies and undescended testes, recording a surgical success rate of 99.98 per cent.

Beyond direct patient care, officials said the programme strengthened healthcare delivery by building surgical capacity in hospitals, motivating medical personnel and upgrading facilities with modern equipment.

The government said the new phase would further close healthcare gaps and extend specialised care to vulnerable residents across Zamfara State.
