Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has outlined key milestones achieved in her first 100 days in office, emphasizing bold reforms to empower women, children, families, and vulnerable groups.
Speaking at a World Press briefing in Abuja on Friday, the minister highlighted the ministry’s shift from policies to action, leading to measurable impact and systemic change.
She noted the strengthening of policy frameworks, including the implementation of the National Gender Policy (2021), the National Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy, and the review of the Child Rights Act (2003).
On economic empowerment, Sulaiman-Ibrahim reaffirmed her vision to empower 10 million women by 2027, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s $1 trillion economic agenda. She cited the launch of the World Bank-supported Nigeria for Women Scale-Up Project, targeting 4.5 million women across all states.
Additionally, the MOWA-SARA Accelerated Skills Acquisition Programme, in collaboration with WEMA Bank, is set to train 500,000 women in vocational and entrepreneurial skills.
The minister also emphasized collaborative governance, strengthening engagement with state governments and Commissioners for Women Affairs across all 36 states to enhance policy implementation at the grassroots level.
At the event, over 500 women benefitted from empowerment initiatives, with various women’s groups and development partners in attendance.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Maryam Ismaila Keshinro commended the minister’s transformative leadership, describing her efforts as a driving force for gender equality and social development.
