Woman, 23, docked over alleged wilful damage to vehicle

The police on Thursday, dragged a 23-year-old woman, Onyiyechukwu Amasi before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, over alleged wilful damage to property.

The defendant, whose address was not stated, is standing trial before Magistrate Lateef Layeni, on a one-count charge of damage to property.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 19, at the Shibiri area of Ojo.

He alleged that following a misunderstanding, the defendant damaged the windscreen and bumper of a Sienna vehicle belonging to Mr Christian Odiegu.

Uche said the damaged vehicle parts were valued at N250,000.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 458 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until May 11 for mention.
