Substitute Chiwendu Ihezuo was the hero as the Super Falcons beat Botswana 1-0 to earn a berth in the quarter-finals at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Ashleigh Plumptre and Toni Payne wasted good chances for Nigeria in the first half as Botswana stood firm at the back.
Botswana had a couple of shots outside the box without real penetration.
Justine Madugu made three substitutions after the break with Esther Okoronkwo, Christy Ucheibe, and Ihezuo replacing Asisat Oshoala, Payne, and Babajide.
Substitute came close to breaking the deadlock 13 minutes from time but was denied by the Botswana goalkeeper.
Ihezuo then struck on the stroke of 90 minutes sliding the ball into the net after he was teed up by Okoronkwo.
It was the forward’s second goal of the competition.
Nigeria top Group B with six points from two games, while Algeria are second with four points.
The Super Falcons will face Algeria in their last group game on Sunday. [Prompt News]
