About two months after the famous #EndSARS protests forced the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, out of his Iga Idungaran palace on Lagos Island, the paramount ruler of Lagos on New Year returned to his Palace.
He, in fact, danced back to the Palace on, Friday, January 1, 2021 donning a white royal regalia.
In a video posted on Twitter by the Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Health, Oreoluwa Finnih, the monarch is seen wearing a mask, dancing towards the palace with his entourage.
Finnih tweeted, “Our daddy is back home… Oba of Lagos, HRM, Alayeluwa Oba Rilwan Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu’s triumphant entry to Iga Idunganran Palace, today, Friday, January 1, 2021.”
Some soldiers had, on October 21, 2020, whisked the septuagenarian away when hoodlums, who had hijacked the #ENDSARS protests, stormed the palace.
The hoodlums made away with the staff of office and plundered the palace for two days.
A palace source had said the missing staff of office had been retrieved but it had yet to be seen publicly as of the time of this report.
Lagos State Governor told Lagosians that their Oba was good and was waiting for spiritual cleansing of the palace to enable his return.
Lagos Island, which was one of the most affected local governments during the protests, witnessed the burning of police stations and the family home of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. (Source: thepodiummedia)
