Senators mostly from opposition parties on Wednesday staged a walkout after a call by them to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari.
One All Progressives Congress, APC, senator, Adamu Muhammad Bulkachuwa from Bauchi, who is Foreign Affairs Committee chairman, was also sighted as one of those who walked out.
It was not immediately clear if he acted in accord with the opposition senators or his egress from the chamber merely coincided with the walkout by them (opposition senators)
Thie walkout followed a mild drama that played out during the plenary in the upper chamber of the National Assembly in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Phillip Aduda (PDP), had raised a point of order asking the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, to discuss the security situation in the country and the impeachment of President Buhari.
Senator Lawan, who presided over the plenary, declined the request of the minority leader, saying the point of order raised fell flat on its face.
Outside the chamber, the opposition parties’ senators had issued a six-week ultimatum to President Muhammadu Buhari to tackle the security challenges bedevilling the country.
They also threatened to commence impeachment proceedings against the President should he fail to address the insecurity within the period given by the lawmakers.
The Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Phillip Aduda, made the position of the lawmakers known on Wednesday while briefing reporters at the National Assembly in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Minority Leader Phillip Aduda, said the caucus was giving President Buhari a six-week ultimatum to address the security crisis in the country failing which they would commence impeachment proceedings against him.
