University of Ibadan Senate appoints Professor Ekanola as institution’s acting VC

The Senate of the University of Ibadan has appointed Professor Adebola Babatunde Ekanola as the acting Vice Chancellor of the institution.

This was consequent upon the directive by the Ministry of Education, through the National Universities Commission (NUC), on the yet-to-be concluded selection process of a substantive VC.

Professor Ekanola is from the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts of the university

The Ministry of Education had directed the Senate of the university to appoint one of its own as VC in acting capacity pending the determination and selection of a substantive occupant of the coveted seat.

The emergence of the acting VC was through a two-hour long process of voting.

The Senate reportedly called for nominations and the seconding of the same by members.

Those nominated by members of the Senate for the election were Professor Adebola Babatunde Ekanola (Current Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic) and Professor Olanike Adeyemo (Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research Innovation and Strategic Partnerships).

Others were Professor A. Oluleye (former Dean, Fauclty of Technology)
Professor Adigun Agbaje (Former Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic) and
Professor Gbemisola Oke (former Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic).

Senate members were duly accredited and voting took place through secret ballot.

Professor Ekanola scored 275 votes to emerge the winner; Professor Olanike Adeyemo (13 votes); Professor Oluleye (80 votes); Professor Agbaje (15 votes); and Professor Oke (14 votes).

The outcomes of the election, as announced, were ratified by the Senate, which adjourned immediately thereafter.
