The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday condemned an Iranian drone attack on commercial vessels linked to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) as they transited the Strait of Hormuz.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement described the incident as a “blatant violation” of UN Security Council resolutions that stressed freedom of navigation and prohibited attacks on commercial shipping or disruption of international maritime routes.

It said two drones were used in the attack, while no injuries were reported.

The ministry said targeting commercial vessels and using the Strait of Hormuz as a means of pressure or economic coercion amounted to “acts of piracy” by Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps.
