Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe have formally resigned their respective positions on the floor of the Senate.

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan read their letters of resignation during announcement in plenary.

Abaribe and Abdullahi resigned from their respective roles as minority and majority leaders of the Senate in the build-up and aftermath of their party’s primary elections in Abia and Kebbi State respectively.

Both of them had dumped the political parties on which they were elected as senators, necessitating their resignation from the positions.

After failing to get tickets for the 2023 election, Abdullahi and Abaribe jumped ship to secure their political future.

While Abaribe left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Abdullahi left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe defected from the PDP to APGA, according to Lawan.

Additionally, he has resigned as minority leader of this parliament. The Minority Leader job is now available for the PDP to occupy.
