The police in Lagos have arraigned two men, Husseini Isiaka and Nafiru Usman, before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing and receiving stolen items valued at N3.6 million.
Isiaka, 35, an office worker, and Nafiru, 42, a scavenger, both residing at Ikosi-Ketu, are standing trial before Magistrate Mrs O.A. Daodu on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, and receiving stolen items.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendants and others at large committed the offences between May 5 and May 26 at Oshikomaya Street, Ikosi-Ketu.
According to him, Isiaka, who worked with the complainant, Friction Lubricants Nigeria Ltd., stole seven kegs of lubricants worth N3.6 million from the company.
Bassey said the stolen items belonged to the complainant, Mr Kingsley Nwokonko, the company’s Managing Director.
He said the complainant reported that during stock-taking, it was discovered that seven kegs of lubricant meant for industrial machines were missing.
“Isiaka has been stealing the items from the store and selling to Usman and one Mohammed, who is currently at large.
“Usman dishonestly received the seven kegs of lubricants with the knowledge they were stolen,” he said.
The offences contravene the provisions of Sections 287(7), 328, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The court granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
She adjourned the case until July 4 for trial.
