By Richard Akintade, Osogbo
A trailer carrying a load of stone from Obaagun quarry and headed for Osogbo lost its brakes and crashed into a shopping complex located in front of Akinrun’s palace in Ikirun.
The accident resulted in the tragic loss of two lives, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Emergency response teams, including the Federal Road Safety Corps, Civil Defence, and other security agents, quickly arrived at the scene and evacuated the bodies.
A witness recounted that the trailer was swerving from side to side on the road, and only a few people who sensed the danger were able to escape.
It was not the first time such an incident had occurred in the area, as a similar accident occurred last year on Emiloju street in Ikirun.
Concerned individuals have suggested that measures should be put in place to curb the recklessness of truck drivers, and alternative routes from the Ahoyaya area to link the Inisa-Osogbo expressway should be explored to ensure the safety of the residents.
Sympathisers are urging the authorities to take action to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring again in the future.
