Troops clear terrorists’ camp, rescue kidnapped victims, recover arms in Taraba

In a series of successful operations executed by troops of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE between April 27th and 29th, 2024, significant strides were made in the ongoing effort to counter terrorism in Taraba State.

A terrorist encampment was effectively neutralized, abducted individuals were liberated, and a substantial cache of arms and ammunition was seized.

The primary objective of these operations was to eradicate the menace posed by terrorist elements sowing fear and disorder within the region.

Troops from the 93 Battalion Sub-Sector 3B OPWS, stationed at Fikyu, promptly responded to reports of suspected terrorists engaging in sporadic gunfire within the Pukun area of Fikyu, located in Ussa Local Government Area, on April 29th, 2024.

Utilizing superior firepower, the troops engaged the assailants, compelling their retreat.

A subsequent search of the area yielded the recovery of 1 AK-47 magazine containing 10 rounds of 7.62MM special ammunition.

Furthermore, troops deployed at Kufai Amadu and Kasuwan Haske, in coordination with units from Sub-Sector 1A OPWS, acted upon intelligence regarding the presence of terrorist hideouts in Vingir Village, situated in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Benue State.

Employing superior tactics and firepower, the troops forced the terrorists into disarray, resulting in their withdrawal from the area.

During these operations, a suspected kidnapper identified as Dogo Manu was apprehended by the troops. Upon his arrest, he was found to be in possession of 2 Techno mobile phones and Forty Thousand Naira (#40,000).

A subsequent search of the suspect’s location led to the recovery of 1 AK-47 rifle.

Additionally, the troops successfully secured the release of kidnapped victims, Dr. James Raphael and his son, in Gbeji, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

In a separate incident, troops belonging to the 20 Model Battalion Sub-Sector 3A OPWS, while conducting nighttime patrols around Gangdanbana and Kwanar Maliki in Bali Local Government Area on April 27th, 2024, apprehended one Junaidu Isiaka in possession of 4 sacks containing a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa.

The apprehended individual had been under surveillance by security agencies due to his involvement in illegal drug trade and supply to terrorist and criminal elements operating within the region.

These operations underscore the unwavering commitment and dedication of our troops in the fight against terrorism and all forms of criminality, prioritizing the safety and security of the populace.
