A 31-year-old trader, Shaibu Isiya, was on Friday arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja, over alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Samuel Emmanuel, told the court that the complainant, Samaila Yakubu, reported the matter at Mpape Police Station on June 13.

Emmanuel said that the complainant’s sister, Aishatu Yakubu, gave the defendant the complainant’s bag of clothes and a pair of shoes from Katsina to deliver to her in Abuja on June 10.

He said that the defendant opened the bag and sold four sets of the complainant’s clothes and a pair of shoes, all valued at N140,000.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence preferred against him.

The Magistrate, Ekpeyong Inyang, admitted the defendant to N300,000 bail, with one surety who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

Inyang said that the surety must depose to an affidavit of means of livelihood and his address verified by the court registry.

She, thereafter, adjourned the matter till July 15 for hearing.
