President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Senator George Akume as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
Akume was sworn in at the council chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, June 7.
The new SGF took the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Office at a brief ceremony attended by the Vice-president Kashim Shettima; Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; and Governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara) and Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia (Benue).
Others in attendance were the former governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-Makura; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan; and the spouse of the new SGF, Mrs Regina Akume.
Akume, a former governor of Benue State, was appointed last Friday to honcho the administrative architecture of the new government.
He served as the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs under former President Muhammadu Buhari from 2019 to 2023.
The new SGF represented Benue North-West Senatorial District from 2007 to 2019.
He was also the Minority Leader of the Senate from June 2011 to June 2015.
Akume comes to his new job armed with robust experiences and an enviable resume that encapsulates his pedigrees.
After his swearing in, Akume told reporters at the State House thar: “It is an honour to be chosen to serve in this exalted position out of over 200 million Nigerians. It is a challenge to serve in line with the oaths I have taken today. I assure Nigerians that I will do my best and that I will not disappoint the President.
“I will not disappoint this country; I will not disappoint my party. I believe Nigerians will find fulfillment in my responsibility as I discharge my duties.”
