Tinubu swears in Ibas as Rivers' sole administrator

President Bola Tinubu has formally inaugurated a former chief of naval staff, Ibokette Ibas as sole administrator of Rivers state during the six-month emergency rule declared in the state on the night of Tuesday, March 18, 2025.

By the declaration, Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and his deputy as well as the State House of Assembly were suspended for six months.

Ibas is to take charge of the affairs of Rivers State in the interest of the good people of the state.

The President, as earlier reported, had also fully brief Ibas on his assignment in Rivers State.

While declaring the emergency rule in Rivers, Tinubu had said: “It has become inevitably compelling for me to invoke the provision of section 305 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State with effect from today, 18th March, 2025 and I so do.”

His action has sparked a deluge of criticism with scant approbation from those close to the administration or looking to be in the administration’s good book.
