President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of five soldiers by suspected militants from the proscribed terrorist organization, IPOB, in Aba, Abia State.
In a statement he personally signed, the President said the soldiers, who were on peacekeeping duty, were murdered on Thursday, just two months after a similar tragic incident in Okuama, Delta State.
“These unwarranted, barbaric, and evil acts are condemnable and should never be condoned or tolerated in our country,” President Tinubu stated.
He emphasized the critical role of soldiers and police in protecting the nation from aggressors and criminal non-state actors, acknowledging the heavy toll this duty takes, with many officers having paid the ultimate price.

The President assured Nigerians that the federal government would take decisive action against those who habitually attack armed forces personnel.
“On no account should anyone, under any guise, have the audacity to kill agents of the state,” he declared.
President Tinubu called on security agencies to apprehend both the perpetrators of the Aba attack and those inciting civil unrest, labeling their actions as treason.
He underscored that the restraint shown by security forces should not be misinterpreted as weakness, reaffirming the government’s commitment to building a peaceful society while warning against further violence.
Conveying his condolences to the families of the slain soldiers, their colleagues, and the armed forces’ leadership, President Tinubu urged peacekeeping personnel to remain steadfast and undeterred by the incident.
