The recent meeting of the southern governors in Asaba and the subsequent statements issued after the said epoch meeting and its subsequent adoption by the caucuses of the southern senators and southern representatives members will have very profound and significant effects on politics in Nigeria from now on.

It was the emergence of such balance of power that guaranteed global stability for a very long time.

The development of deadly and lethal nuclear capabilities later changed this balance of power to balance of terror and the well-known now existing MUTUAL ASSURED DESTRUCTION (M.A.D) which also keeps world at peace.

By inference, a united southern front in Nigeria is the ONLY development that will guarantee our National Stability.

A strong and united southern Nigeria irrespective of political and religious affiliations is in the interest of the North and a political imperative for our national Stability.

This is different from National Unity which will only come when political stability leads to unconditional guarantee of personal individual and economic liberties, equity and social justice among all federating units.

A future formation of political groupings based on this emerging unity will ultimately bring about respect and justice amongst us as equal citizens of a great Nation.

Separatist’s agitations are bound to reduce and be replaced by genuine patriotism and true mordern Nationalism.

Finally, in order to make this unity sustainable, the southern governors should go back to their states and establish multi partisan fora where this idea of unity can be grounded at the grass roots. After all charity must begin from home.

It is a great thing that in all this national crisis situation, God has given us an opportunity for a new begining for the Nation.

Glory be to His Holy Name.
