No fewer than 28 people have been killed by terrorists following an attack on Duma community in the Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto state.
The locals disclosed that the attack occurred at about 8 a.m. and extended till 7 p.m. on Wednesday as the assailants terrorised the residents and rustled livestock.
The sources further revealed that the terrorists, who were armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the village in their large number in motorcycles.
It was gathered that over 20 of the victims died while attempting to escape the attack by diving into the river.
The terrorists were also said to have abducted some youths during the attack.
The gunmen were, however, said to be demanding Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as petrol, for the release of the abductees.
Meanwhile, the governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has led a team of security personnel and other government officials on a condolence visit to the village.
Tambuwal further observed the Juma’at in the area and prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims.
Tureta is one of the local government areas in Sokoto State that has suffered a series of attacks with a number of travellers abducted while some lost their lives.
