FOTOKOL, Cameroon — One Nigerian is dead and seven others are nursing wounds after a single knife thrust unleashed a wave of xenophobic rage in this border town.

Security sources said the violence erupted around 3:30 p.m. on April 29,2026 when a Cameroonian man was allegedly stabbed to death by a Nigerian suspect who vanished into the streets.

What followed was swift and brutal. Angry mobs turned on Nigerians living in Fotokol, hunting them down in retaliation. By nightfall, one man lay dead. Seven others were bleeding.

Troops from 3 Battalion, Mechanised, and 24 Task Force Brigade rushed in to stop the border communities from sliding into further bloodshed.

The injured were evacuated across the border to a general hospital in Ngala, Borno State, where doctors are now fighting to save them.

The suspect remains at large. Tension still hangs heavy over Fotokol.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to calm the area, track the killer, and shield Nigerians from fresh attacks.

But for the families of the victims, calm came too late.
