● CP Orutugu issues 48-hour ultimatum, warns attackers disguising in military/police uniforms
●Road declared “den of criminal elements”
Anambra State erupted in tension Sunday night after suspected hoodlums ambushed the convoy of Chief of Staff to Governor Charles Soludo, Dr. Ben Nwankwo, on the Amansea–Ufuma Road.
Two policemen were feared killed in the attack.
Dr. Nwankwo escaped unhurt, according to police reports.
–48-hour ultimatum–
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered police formations and tactical units across the state to fish out the attackers within 48 hours.
The directive was issued during an emergency security meeting at the State Police Command Headquarters with senior officers and heads of tactical units.
“I want you to fish out the attackers and the killers of our officers. I demand immediate action to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act. I want results,” Orutugu said.
He described the attack as a direct assault on state authority and vowed it would not go unpunished.
“The people of Anambra State must know that the police are fully in charge and ready to protect them. This kind of killing cannot happen under my watch. We must bring the perpetrators to justice and put an end to their activities,” the CP added.
–New criminal tactic: Fake uniforms–
Orutugu raised the alarm over emerging tactics, saying intelligence shows attackers now disguise themselves in police and military uniforms to evade detection.
He urged public vigilance, especially on vulnerable routes.
–Amansea–Ufuma Road flagged as danger zone–
The police commissioner specifically cautioned motorists and commuters using the Amansea–Ufuma Road, calling it an isolated route that has become a hotspot for criminal ambushes.
“The Amansea–Ufuma Road is a particularly isolated route. Commuters and members of the public should exercise caution while using the road, as it has, in recent times, become a den of criminal elements,” he warned.
