Security personnel of the Transmission Company of Nigeria have foiled an attempted armed robbery attack at the Ogbomoso Transmission Substation.

The company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to her, preliminary findings showed that the suspected robbers gained unauthorised access into the facility by scaling the perimeter fence near the gate between late Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday.

Mbah said the intruders later advanced toward the gate house in an attempt to attack and neutralise the vigilante personnel on duty.

“The security team on duty repelled the attackers by firing warning shots, forcing them to retreat and flee through the same route they used to gain entry,” she stated.

She added that the fleeing suspects abandoned several tools and personal belongings near the fence while escaping from the facility.

According to the statement, an inspection conducted at daybreak revealed traces of blood and footprints believed to belong to the intruders.

Mbah further disclosed that a subsequent search around the premises led to the recovery of a bag containing additional tools suspected to have been used for the attempted operation.

The TCN spokesperson said the incident had been reported to relevant security agencies for investigation.

She added that the company was working closely with security operatives to prevent future attacks on critical power infrastructure.

“No personnel of the company was injured during the incident,” Mbah said.

She reaffirmed TCN’s commitment to protecting its installations and ensuring the safety of staff and electricity infrastructure nationwide.
