“Don’t run in 2027” — Deji Adeyanju writes open letter urging Jonathan to protect his legacy

A human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has welcomed fellow activists and former critics to the electoral reform protest, noting that the system’s consequences are now being felt by those who once helped to build and protect it.

Adeyanju expressed hope that more familiar faces, including former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai, would soon join the protest.

In a statement, Adeyanju noted that the sudden awakening of those who once opposed the protest was proof that injustice eventually spared no one.

“All those who once mobilised thugs against us, mocked our protests, and ridiculed us for our insistence on accountability and the rule of law are today finding their voices on the streets,” he said.

Adeyanju welcomed the former critics to the protest, saying, “We welcome them, nonetheless, to this side of history.”

He expressed hope that more people would join the call for electoral reform, particularly those who once stood firmly against the struggle.

The protest is a call to action for Nigerians to demand a better electoral system that ensures free, fair, and credible elections.

The outcome of the protest will determine the future of Nigeria’s democracy and the direction of the country’s electoral process.

The protest is expected to draw attention to the need for electoral reform and put pressure on the government to take action.

As more people join the protest, the movement is likely to gain momentum, and the government may be forced to listen to the demands of the people.
