The police on Thursday, dragged one Iyabo Moradeyo, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, for allegedly allegedly failing to produce a defendant in court for trial.
Moradeyo, had stood surety for her son, one Gbolagade Adedotun in another criminal case, but had failed to produce him for trial on several dates.
She was consequently, charged with perverting the course of justice.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp. Samuel Owolabi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 26, 2024, at about 9.00 a.m., at Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court 11, Ibadan.

The prosecutor said that the defendant stood surety for her son, who is standing trial on charges bordering on stealing.
He alleged that the defendant failed to produce her son in court when the case was called on different dates.
The offence contravenes the provisions of section 126 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Gladys Olanrewaju, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The court held that the sureties must be civil servants.
She adjourned the case until April 15, for hearing.
