Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa, is dead.
His death occurred on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in Abuja in a brief illness.
The news was confirmed in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Bauchi State Governor.
Governor Bala Mohammed reportedly expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
He described Alhaji Hardawa’s death as a major blow to Bauchi State.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to Hardawa’s family, friends, and the entire people of the state.
According to Governor Mohammed, “The late Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa was a distinguished statesman, an accomplished public servant, and a patriotic Nigerian whose meritorious service to Bauchi State and the nation at large left a lasting legacy.”
He praised Hardawa’s honesty and his contributions to democratic development at both the state and national levels.

Hardawa had previously served as the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Taraba and Nasarawa States.
During his time in thise roles, he was known for fairness, hard work, and strong moral character.
As BASIEC Chairman, he played a key role in strengthening grassroots democracy.
He was commended for ensuring local government elections were transparent and credible.
“His commitment to the rule of law and institutional development earned him the respect of colleagues, political actors, and the general public,” the statement added.
Governor Mohammed described him as “a man of wisdom, humility, and exemplary leadership” and said his vast experience and dedication would be greatly missed, especially as the state continued its democratic journey.
The governor prayed that “Allah forgives Hardawa’s shortcomings, grants him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives his family the strength to bear the loss.”
The funeral prayer (Janazah) for Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa took place on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi.
