Akume, in a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, warned the public to be cautious of individuals claiming they could secure Federal Government appointments in exchange for payment.

According to him, the scammers’ method involved informing victims they had been shortlisted for appointments, then requesting sums ranging from ₦5 million to ₦15 million to “process” the offers.

The fraudsters were said to provide bank account details and request curriculum vitae via fake email addresses, with some even using cloned voice recordings of the SGF to convince targets.

“The appointment processes into boards and parastatals are transparent and verifiable.

“No one should pay any money in anticipation of securing a position,” the statement read.

Akume said that the fraudsters’ accounts were domiciled in both new generation banks and popular fintech mobile money platforms.

He added that security agencies had been alerted, urging Nigerians to report such activities to the authorities and take all necessary precautions to avoid falling victim.
