Sergio Aguero has tested positive for Covid-19, with the Manchester City striker confirming that he is experiencing symptoms and will continue self-isolating.
City’s record goalscorer was already quaratining having missed his side’s last four games – including Wednesday night’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa – after coming into close contact with somebody who had tested positive for the virus.
Aguero tweeted on Thursday to confirm that he had tested positive himself and that he would continue to be unavailable to manager Pep Guardiola.
“After a close contact, I’ve been self-isolating and the latest test I took was positive for COVID 19. I had some symptoms and I’m following doctor’s orders for recovery,” Indepebdent newspaper reported the 32-year-old to have said.
Aguero has yet to score a Premier League goal this season and has only made nine appearances in all competitions due to a string of enforced absences.
The Argentina international underwent knee surgery in the summer, delaying his return from injury until mid-October, and then suffered a hamstring injury.
