The Social Democratic Party has formally submitted the name of Prince Adewole Adebayo to the Independent National Electoral Commission as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
In a letter to INEC dated May 14, SDP National Secretary Dr. Olu Agunloye said the decision followed the party’s national convention and presidential primary held on May 9 at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi. Adebayo emerged as the sole aspirant and received the backing of delegates and party members.
The letter, entitled “Submission of the Name and Other Details of SDP Presidential Candidate,” confirmed that Adebayo would contest for president on the SDP platform.
The party also asked INEC to provide the required nomination forms—EC9, EC9A, EC9B, EC9C, EC9D, and EC9E—to complete the process.
Adebayo flew the SDP flag in the 2023 presidential election. His return as the party’s candidate comes as opposition parties ramp up consultations and internal preparations ahead of 2027.
