The Management and Staff members of Sagbama Local Government have celebrated the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at the Council field.
Presenting her speech, the Head of Local Government Administration and Acting Council Chairman, Mrs Jack Ayebaye Jacqueline represented by the Director of Administration and General Services, Mrs Belinda Efebo said the Armed Forces Remembrance Day was special and important in the historical calendar of the country to celebrate the sacrifices made by gallant soldiers who paid the supreme sacrifice to keep the country together as one united indivisible entity.
She stated that “as we join the serving and retired officers to remember the fallen heroes, the public should go beyond launching of the emblem and laying of wreathes on the tomb of the unknown soldier to give helping hands to their families.”
The Head of Sagbama Local Government Administration thanked Governor Douye Diri and his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, for giving the principal officers opportunity to celebrate the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
She also thanked the Amananaowei of Sagbama, HRH Moses Ozo, the Divisional Police Officer of Sagbama, Superintendent Charles Ekata, Commandant NSCDC Sagbama, Lucky David, Director State Security Services Sagbama, Edwin Akpomiemien for finding time to attend the programme.
Earlier, the Chairman Sagbama Chapter of Nigerian Legion, retired Colonel Brown Tambiri in his welcome address emphasized the need for people to live in peace and unity, and reflect on the challenges facing the families of the fallen heroes and the need to support them.
Retired Colonel Brown Tambiri appealed to the Council to provide a functional office accommodation to enable them operate like other Local Governments in the country.
He also appealed to political leaders in Sagbama Local Government Area and other well meaning individuals to support the families of the military veterans in order to assuage their sufferings.
The Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs Jack Ayebaye Jacqueline represented by the Director of Administration and General Services, Mrs Belinda Efebo inspected the Guard of honour mounted by the Legionaires and also laid wreath on the tomb of the unknown soldier.
Others who laid wreaths included the Divisional Police Officer of Sagbama, Superintendent Charles Ekata and the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion Sagbama Chapter, retired Colonel Brown Tambiri.
Dignitaries present at the occasion included the Sagbama Local Government NULGE Chairman, Comrade Agberekeme, Director Finance and Treasury, Dr. Israel Apraela, former leader Sagbama Local Government Legislative Arm, Hon. Ebikake Godday.
Others are HOD Works, Torunagha Eneibi, Director Accounts, Mrs. Lelian Ombu, Head of Administration, Oyeindinepere Kpodo, Director of Budget, Lawyer Amassomowei serving military, police officers, and men and officers of the Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps.
