The Rivers State chapter of the APC has cleared 33 aspirants for its 2027 House of Assembly primaries while disqualifying 65 others, with most of those dropped linked to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The screening, conducted by a committee led by Muraina Ajibola, reviewed 98 aspirants vying for the party’s ticket across 32 state constituencies.
All 29 serving lawmakers, including Deputy Speaker Dumle Maol, were cleared. Speaker Martin Amaewhule did not seek re-election to the assembly and has opted to run for the House of Representatives.
The committee said those disqualified failed to meet party requirements, citing incomplete or inconsistent documents, invalid voter cards and membership slips, age discrepancies, unsworn affidavits, and nominations by members not financially up to date. It also flagged attempts to influence the process through inducement and bribery, and errors in NECO certificate disclosures.
Among those disqualified were aspirants identified as loyal to Fubara and former APC governorship candidate Tonye Cole, including Chijioke Ihunwo, Victor Oko-Jumbo, and Sokari Goodboy.
The 33 cleared aspirants are regarded as loyalists of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The committee described the process as transparent and inclusive, saying all aspirants were invited to present original credentials for verification. Aspirants were advised to check their status at the APC notice board in the state.
