Ribadu has not resigned, Presidency source says
Nuhu Ribadu

National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu has not resigned, a senior Presidency source said, dismissing reports linking his exit to the creation of the new Office of the Special Adviser on Homeland Security.

The source, quoted by PRNigeria on Monday, said that the appointment of retired Maj. Gen. Adeyinka Famadewa to the new role was meant to strengthen security coordination, not replace the NSA.

Famadewa served as Principal Staff Officer to former NSA Babagana Monguno from 2015 to 2021.

The office, modeled after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, will focus on immigration, civil defence, transport safety, and domestic intelligence.

The source said its mandate did not conflict with ONSA’s constitutional responsibilities.

“The rumours suggesting Mallam Nuhu Ribadu resigned are entirely false and should be disregarded,” the source stated.

Ribadu continues to enjoy President Tinubu’s confidence and remains active in coordinating national security, intelligence, and inter-agency operations, the source added.
