Several residents who were trapped in a lift at a residential apartment on Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Monday, March 9, 2026, have been safely evacuated.
The residents had raised the alarm after being trapped inside an elevator for over 40 minutes with no hope of being rescued.
A now circulating video shared online showed occupants sweating and appearing distressed while stuck inside the lift.

In the post accompanying the video, the user claimed the incident occurred at an apartment building near Banana Island School Apartment.
According to him, the trapped occupants had contacted the landlord’s daughter for assistance but were told the management would “see what they could do.”
He wrote, “We are here in the lift of Banana Island School Apartment. We have been stuck here for almost 40 minutes.
“We are all about suffocating in here. Nobody seems to be doing anything about it.
“We spoke to the land lady’s daughter, she said they will see what they can do. Can you imagine ?.”
It was gathered that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) responded to the scene following the distress calls and videos shared on social media by the trapped individuals, who expressed fears of suffocation.
All trapped residents were successfully rescued by emergency personnel.
Authorities have urged the public to disregard any reposted videos appearing to show a fresh incident, confirming that the situation was fully resolved as of Monday evening. [Eagle Online]
