Residents of Kaduna State have commended the government’s distribution of more than 4.5 million free Insecticide‑Treated Mosquito nets (ITNs) across all 23 Local Government Areas in the ongoing fight against malaria.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the initiative is part of a collaborative effort involving the Kaduna State Ministry of Health, the National Malaria Elimination Programme, the Society for Family Health, and other partners.

The beneficiaries told NAN on Friday in Kaduna that the nets would significantly reduce malaria transmission and protect vulnerable groups, including pregnant women and children.

Mrs Pauline Christopher, a mother of five, said the nets arrived at a critical time after she spent heavily on malaria treatments for her children.

“We are grateful for these nets and will ensure they are used effectively.

“With this, my kids will sleep safely and avoid mosquito bites,” she said, noting that the nets are durable, lasting three to five years, and cost-effective.

Another mother, Maryam Abdullahi, underscored the role of nets as physical barriers that reduced malaria transmission and improved sleep quality.

“Mosquitoes are not only conveyors of disease but also disrupt sleep with their buzzing,” she said.

Similarly, Mr Bala Usman noted that nets offered a safe refuge, contributing to better health and productivity.

Mr Sankey Musa urged residents to use the nets properly and maintain good sanitation and hygiene.

“Proper sanitation and hygiene are essential to prevent mosquito breeding and reduce disease burden, especially among children,” he added.

NAN also reports that the distribution marks a significant step in malaria prevention in Kaduna, with the nets expected to enhance community health and reduce treatment costs.
