A Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to remove High Chief Raymond Dokpesi from its watchlist.
Justice John Tsoho, who made the order on Monday held that there was no justification to keep Dokpesi on the watchlist since there is no criminal charge or allegation pending against him.
The order followed an application filed and argued by Dokpesi’s counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN).
Justice Tsoho held that having Dokpesi on the watchlist despite quashing of criminal charges against him by the Court of Appeal amounted to disregard for court judgment.
Recall the appellate court had on April 1 this year quashed the N2.1bn money laundering charges against Dokpesi by the EFFC.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja dismissed the N2.1bn fraud charges on the grounds that the EFCC failed to establish a prima facie case against Dokpesi, while upholding the PRP chieftain no-case submission.
In the judgment, Justice Elfreda Oyebisi Williams-Dawodu, held that the ingredients of the offences were not provided by the prosecution as required by law.
