Ramadan: Yobe Emir appeals to traders against price hike

Emir of Machina Alhaji (Dr) Bashir Albashir Bukar has appealed to traders against hiking the prices of their commodities in the month of Ramadan.

The tradtional ruler made the call on Friday while playing host to some journalists who visited him to pay Ramadan homage.

He said marketers should reason with the common man and reduce the prices of their goods, especially food items to enable people to enjoy Ramadan with little stress.

He said: “During this holy month of Ramadan, traders should feel the pains of the common man, cut down prices of food items so that they will receive Allah’s blessings in their businesses.”

He noted that religious preachers were worried about the increased prices of food items “whenever Ramadan is approaching. Hence call for the need for preaching against the act.’’

The emir also appealed to both Yobe State and the Federal governments, market unions and regulatory bodies to monitor and moderate market prices to prevent an outrageous hike in the prices of food.

He added that: “Artificial inflation is making life extremely hard for Nigerians, traders should think of meeting God and the consequences of tripling prices of commodities. Allah is watching you in whatever you do, always have the fear of Him in whatever you do.’’

The royal father called on Muslim clerics to preach peaceful co-existence among people and avoid utterances capable of incitement, even as he advised leaders of various religious groups to be just in all their doings.

In a related development, the Emir of Ngazargamu, Alhaji Ahmed Saleh called on Muslims to use the Ramadan fasting period to pray for continuous peace and unity in the country.

The emir’s advice was contained in a statement signed he personally signed and made available to journalists in Damaturu on Friday.

He also urged Muslims to imbibe the spirit of tolerance, to ensure the nation’s peaceful co-existence.

He said: “Muslims should use the period of Ramadan to seek forgiveness from others and forgive those who have offended them in order to gain from the salvation of the Almighty Allah.

”As Muslims, we know the importance of Ramadan as a holy month when Allah forgives His servants of their shortcomings. Muslims should use this period to forgive one another of all misgivings that had happened in the past.”

The Emir who said: “Time has come for us to unite and embrace one another as brothers and sisters,” admonished Muslims to attune their minds to the messages of love, brotherliness and peaceful co-existence.
