The Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday 20th April, 2023 arrested two gunmen in Kano, Nigeria.

Confirming the report, Public Relations Officer of the Department of State Services National Headquarters in Abuja, Peter Afunanya, said the suspects were apprehended while on transit to deliver arms for a planned attack in one of the states in Northern Nigeria.

The agency said “This development highlights the importance of citizens being extra vigilant and reporting any unusual or suspicious activities to the nearest security agencies.”

During the arrest, the DSS said it recovered two AK-47 assault rifles, two empty AK47 magazines, a red boxer motorcycle, and a sack of yams in which the guns were concealed.

Afunanya also took the opportunity to wish the Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyous Eid el-fitr celebration.

He pledged the DSS’ commitment to work with sister agencies and other stakeholders to ensure adequate security during and after the festivities.

As the festive period approaches, Afunanya urged operators and patrons of fun, hospitality, and tourism centers to be cautious and scale up measures to ensure the safety of their facilities.

“This caution is important to prevent attacks by criminals and to maintain peace and security in the country,” the DSS said.
