The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Saa’d Abubakar, has announced the sighting of the new moon and commencement of fasting on Wednesday.
This was contained in a statement by the Wazirin Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, on Tuesday.
Junaidu, who is the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto, explained that Sultan’s announcement followed reports received by the Council from the various Moon Sighting Committees across Nigeria.
Following the confirmation, Muslims in Nigeria will join their counterparts worldwide in the commencement of 29 or 30 days of fasting, effective from Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
The Nigerian Muslim leader felicitated with the faithful, wishing them Allah’s guidance and blessings.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Lunar calendar.
It is the month in which the Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad.
It features many rewarding activities such as fasting, charity, reflection, and recitation of Quran among others.
