1. A Bill for an Act to establish the Federal Polytechnic Dange, Sokoto State to provide full-time courses in technology, applied science, management and other fields of studies and to make provision for the General Administration and for other related matters, 2022 (SB. 389) by Senator Ibrahim Danbaba.

“I want to thank Senator Danbaba for this timely Bill. The arguments with this Bill are so germane. I therefore urge us all to support this Bill for second reading.” – Senator Aliyu Wammako

“I rise to support this Bill. The way it is now in Sokoto State, we don’t have a Polytechnic. The only Polytechnic we have was transferred to Zamfara State. I therefore urge everyone to support this Bill.” -Senator Ibrahim Gobir

The Bill was read the Second Time and referred to the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND to report back within four weeks.

2. A Bill for an Act to Establish the National Agency for Ethics, Values and Integrity Compliance and for related matters, 2022 (SB. 834) by Senator Ayo Akinyelure

“I obviously sympathize with the reasons for this Bill. If you take a look around, a lot of our morals and ethics have been degraded and something must be done about it. Unfortunately I don’t agree with this Bill. Oronsanye came up with a report saying we should collapse some agencies. Whatever can be done can be done by the National Orientation Agency. I don’t think we need this agency as laudable as the objectives of the Bill are.” – Senator Orker Jev

“I am going to agree with this Bill and I am going to second it. My colleague was talking about many agencies like the National Orientation Agency. These agencies are not even enough. There is indiscipline in this country and it is so endemic.” – Senator Nicholas Tofowomo

“I rise to lend my support to this Bill. Previous government have made several attempt to enforce discipline in our society, unfortunately we have not succeeded in doing that.” – Senator Adamu Aliero

The Bill was read the Second Time and referred to the Committee on Establishment and Public Service to report back within four weeks.

“That because we have Oronsanye report saying we should merge agencies of government doesn’t mean we cannot create new ones. Some of those agencies were established 50-60 years ago to tackle some specific challenges. Today, they are not useful. They should go. When we face emerging challenges, we should also set up agency that will tackle such challenges. We can also, maybe, look at the possibility of expanding the scope of say National Orientation Agency, or retuning it to make it more effective. But definitely this issue of reorientation of Nigerians is a major fundamental issue and should be treated as such.” – Senate President Ahmad Lawan

3. A Bill for an Act to Establish the Nigerian Television Authority College, Jos and for related matters, 2022 (SB. 961) by Senator Istifanus Gyang

“I rise to commend the mover of this Bill because as a product of that school, the institution was very good and I remember the caliber of people that institution has trained. Almost every member of the NTA went through that school in Jos. There is no controversy about this Bill. The institution is so reputable and has trained a lot of professionals. I therefore support this Bill.” – Senator Ibrahim Gobir

“I want to commend my brother for this wonderful Bill. The colored television took off from Jos and that was the mother of all colored television in West Africa. The Act to support this institution is very essential. If you would recall also, most of the professionals that were trained from this College are in the leadership of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA). So I stand here to urge all my Distinguished members to support this Bill so as to make this college viable and more profitable.” – Senator Nora Ladi Daduut

The Bill was read the Second Time and referred to the Committee on Information and National Orientation to report back within four weeks.

4. A Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal School of Nursing and Midwifery Igbeagu, Izzi and for other related matters, 2022 (SB. 856) by Senator Samuel Egwu

“There is collapse of Primary Health Centre (PHC) simply because the Local Governments are no longer in position to provide PHC. We all know why they cannot function. Their money have not been released to them. That is why this Chamber amended the 1999 Constitution to abolish Local Government Joint Account.
