Anambra State Police have launched an investigation into the death of a pregnant woman whose body was found hanging from a cashew tree on the Ike-Ideani road in the Idemili North Local Government Area.
The discovery, made by residents of the Ideani Community, shocked locals as the body was found in a remote area.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
Ikenga said the police would unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the pregnant woman.
Ikenga stated that the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, described the case as deeply unfortunate and a “stark example of man’s inhumanity to man”.
“The police commissioner has ordered a thorough investigation into the suspected murder and called on community leaders to assist in identifying the deceased and those responsible for the act,” he said.
He quoted the state’s Commissioner of Police, to have called on community leaders and stakeholders to provide any information that could help clarify the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
He condemned the incident as a tragic example of inhumanity and ordered a thorough investigation to identify those responsible.
The CP also appealed to the public to help identify the deceased so that her family could be notified and recover the body.
The woman’s body has been recovered by officers from the Ogidi Police Division and deposited in the mortuary for further examination.
The police spokesperson noted that operatives from the Ogidi Police Division recovered the woman’s body and had deposited it at a mortuary, pending further identification and autopsy.
Ikenga, therefore, appealed to residents and stakeholders of the Uke/Ideani community to provide useful information that could help unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Ikenga also assured the public that updates on the investigation would be provided as more facts emerge.
