A 42-year-old Point of Sale operator, Kafayat Morayo Salami, has been remanded in Kirikiri prison after being arraigned over the alleged fraudulent withdrawal of N10 million from a bank account.

Salami appeared before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on a four-count charge of stealing, fraudulent conversion and retention of suspected stolen funds. The prosecution alleged she convinced a teenager, Peace Godwin, to bring her father’s ATM card, which was then used to withdraw the money between February and April 2026 in Ago-Okota.

Police said the funds were received and retained through Salami’s Opay account registered under Morayo Al-Bashroh Ventures. The offences, they said, contravened the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2025.

Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun granted Salami bail of N1 million with two sureties, but she was remanded after failing to meet the conditions. She was initially arrested by officers at Ago-Okota Police Division before the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti.

Salami denied the allegations and accused police of unlawful detention and assault during interrogation. She claimed a 15-year-old girl visited her shop on April 13, 2026, for a N1 million transaction she said was authorised by the girl’s mother. According to her, N645,000 was transferred to a First Bank account, N100,000 was given in cash, and a balance remained outstanding.

She alleged her hijab was removed, her PoS machine seized, and transaction records deleted during questioning at Ago-Okota Police Station. Salami also said she was denied access to family members and that officers tried to conceal details of the bank account involved.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Dayo Akinbisehin, who heads the State CID, reportedly directed the investigating officer to appear with relevant account details. Despite this, police said they intend to proceed with prosecution.
