Police parade 21 suspects, recover firearms, ammunition in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Commissioner, CP Maiyaki Baba, on Friday, in Lafia, paraded 21 persons arrested at different points during the governorship and House of Assembly elections.

The suspects were paraded before newsmen by the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Ramhan Nansel, on behalf of the CP, at a media interface aimed at showcasing and displaying the Command’s achievements in its continuous fight against crime in the state.

“In the Command’s quest to conduct a peaceful election in Nasarawa State, the Commissioner of Police reiterated the order of the Inspector-general of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba which is in conformity with the Electoral Act, 2022 that banned the activities of quasi-security organizations from providing security during elections.

“The CP had warned political thugs that may want to truncate the electoral process in the State to desist from such or the Command in synergy with sister security agencies in the state would do everything within its operational guidelines to deal ruthlessly and subdue any act that capable of rupturing the peace enjoyed in the State.

Arrest of political thugs and recovery of firearms:

“Following the existing synergy, on 17/03/2023 the eve of election, military operatives patrolling along Umaisha, Toto LGA intercepted a Toyota pickup vehicle and a Toyota Siena bus loaded with persons suspected to be political thugs namely: Aaron Samson, Tijani Jemba, Abdulahi Salihu, Usman Abubakar, Abdulahi Usman, Mohammed Abdulahi, Babangida Mohammed Kasimu A. Danladi, Saidu A. Suleiman, Salihu Abdulkareem, Shamsudeen Abubakar, Usman Murtala, Mohammed Sule, Huseini Elhag, James Emeka, Idris Abdullazeez and Ibrahim Alhassan all males from FCT, Nasarawa and Imo State respectively.

“A thorough search was conducted on them where two English pump action guns, nine locally fabricated guns, twenty live cartridges, twenty four handsets of different brands, two unregistered vehicles, fifteen pairs of desert booths, a bag containing belt, bullet proof jackets etc.

“The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia.

Arrest of armed robbery suspect and recovery of firearm:

“On 15/03/2023 at about 20:35 hours, acting based on credible information about some suspected armed robbery suspects who have been on the wanted list of the Command for various offences, Police operatives attached to Masaka Division were deployed to their hide out located at Angwan Police, Masaka where the duo of Isaac David 20 years and Glean Kennedy 22 years were arrested. Consequently, one locally fabricated Berretta pistol was recovered from them as exhibit.

“Upon cross-examination, the suspects confessed to having carried out many armed robbery operations within Masaka and environs. Investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia.

Conspiracy, attempt to commit culpable homicide and recovery criminal of firearms:

“On 11/03/2023 at about 17:40 hours, a complaint was lodged at Toto Division that, a gang of two men, armed with dangerous weapons were sighted while attempting to kill one Ali Misalam ‘M’ of Toto LGA.

“Reacting to the unpleasant development, police operatives attached to Toto Division swiftly raced to the scene where the duo of Peche Misalam and promise Jacob were arrested. One locally made gun, one pistol, and two live cartridges were recovered from the suspects as exhibit.

“Upon interrogation, the suspects admitted to have conspired in order to kill the victim because he initiated their mother into witch craft before nemesis caught up with them. Suspects will be charged to court for prosecution upon conclusion of investigation.”

All the suspects were to be charged to Court upon conclusion of investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia.

The Command stated categorically that, it would not be beaten by the antics of criminals as it would continue to modulate its enormous security measures in order to be several miles ahead of the men of the underworld; an avowed commitment that was aptly demonstrated with the arrest of 21 suspects and recovery of firearms and other weapons on display today.
