The Nigeria Police Force has condemned the disrespectful actions displayed by comedian Abdulgafar Abiola, widely known as “Cute Abiola,” in two recent skits posted on his social media platforms on 20th and 24th July, 2023.

According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer at Force Headquarters, Abuja, the skits in question presented a highly derogatory and contemptuous portrayal of the police uniform.

He said that such behaviour directly violated Section 251 of the Criminal Code and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law.

According to him, “These actions are not only offensive but also undermine the integrity and dignity of the dedicated men and women who wear the police uniform to serve the nation.

“The Nigeria Police Force is taking this matter seriously and will conduct a thorough investigation into Abdulgafar Abiola’s deliberate acts.

“He may face prosecution as the NPF had already issued warnings to skit makers and filmmakers to refrain from desecrating its uniform or any related items.”

Adejobi emphasized that the Force was committed to upholding the sanctity of the police uniform and will ensure due legal process was followed to hold individuals or entities accountable for tarnishing its image.

“It is crucial for all members of the public, including media personalities, to exercise their freedom of expression responsibly and avoid engaging in actions that could undermine public trust in the respected law enforcement institutions of the country,” he said.
