Police operatives attached to Tafa Division in Niger State, acting on a reasonable suspicion on 30th July arrested two suspects Usman Sabiu aged 22yrs ‘m’ of Hayin-Nasarawa, Tafa and Nafiu Umar aged 18yrs ‘m’ of same address for kidnapping and culpable homicide of a 13-year-old boy.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the 13-year-old boy Yasir Salisu of Hayin-Nasarawa, Tafa Local Government Area was reported missing since on 29/07/2022,
He said during a rigorous and painstaking interrogation, Usman Sabiu confessed to have conspired with Nafiu Umar and abducted the missing person to the resident of Nafiu with the intention of collecting ransom of N100,000 from the victim’s father.
Abiodun said the suspects claimed that the victim could not produce the father’s contact number to demand for ransom and both suspects were identified by the victim who are neighbours; hence, the victim was strangled and killed by the suspects.
He said in the course of investigation, the suspects led police operatives to a river bank in Hayin-Nasarawa where the deceased was buried in a shallow grave; however, the corpse was exhumed and deposited at Umar Yar’adua Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
Abiodun said the case is under investigation and the suspects will be arraigned in court for prosecution as soon as investigation is concluded.
