Police operatives attached to Tudun-Wada Division, arrested Adamu Mamman a.k.a Gambo age 20yrs, Ukasha Umar age 20yrs, Shamsu Garba age 21yrs and Naziru Mohammed age 20yrs, all ‘m’ of Bosso area of Minna for criminal conspiracy and robbery.
They were arrested while the Police operatives were on patrol along Tunga/Chanchaga road in Niger State
Confirming the report, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu A. Abiodun, the suspects were arrested at Farm-centre area of Chanchaga Local Government Area when robbing a female victim with two knives in a tricycle.
Abiodun said the victim attempted to board a tricycle (keke-napep) from Tunga to Chanchaga, while the suspects who disguised themselves as passengers in the tricycle with Reg. no. MNA 455 VM suddenly alighted with two knives, attacked and robbed the victim of her purse containing about fifty-five thousand naira and her infinix hot 5 handset valued at about forty-one thousand naira.
He said the victim immediately raised the alarm which alerted the police patrol team, while the hoodlums quickly zoomed off in their tricycle after robbing her.
He said that after a hot chase by the patrol team, the suspects were apprehended.
Abiodun said during interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime while the two knives and the tricycle used in committing the crime were recovered from them.
He said the case was under investigation and the suspects would be arraigned as soon as investigation was concluded.
In another development, Police operatives attached to ‘A’ Division, Suleja, arrested Abdul Yahaya aged 29yrs and Mustapha Abubakar aged 28yrs, both ‘m’ of Sabo Angwan-Kwamba, Suleja.
Abiodun said Abdul was arrested on an estate in Kwamba, Suleja where he attempted to snatch a handset from a victim and the alarm was raised which attracted mob action.
He said the Police patrol team quickly mobilized to the scene, rescued and arrested him, thus saving the suspect from the mob who had inflicted injury on him.
Abiodun said during investigation, the Police later conducted a search at the suspect’s residence and one locally fabricated pistol with an empty cartridge, one locally fabricated gun, one dane gun, four knives, three cutlasses, one scissors, one camera, one security light, two ATM cards, one hammer, one stick, one motorcycle key, two black trousers and a black t-shirt, one black fez cap, and four wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered.
He said Mustapha was later arrested when he attempted to evacuate some exhibits from one Hamza Hussaini’s residence, who is also a member of the robbery gang, but presently at large.
Abiodun said the suspects were equally reported to have robbed some victims at Gabodna market and made away with three mobile phones, one ATM card, and some amount of money.
He said effort was ongoing to apprehend the said Hamza while the two suspects arrested would be prosecuted immediately the investigation was concluded.
Abiodun said the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Monday Bala Kuryas, had reassured Nigerlites that visibility policing would be intensified towards nipping crimes and criminality in the bud in the society.
He also urged members of the public to continue to support the Police with adequate information for a better and more secure environment.
