Police arrest cop-killer, dismantle child-trafficking syndicate

The Nigeria Police Force has adopted proactive, intelligence-driven strategies to combat crime, leading to the disruption of criminal networks and a reduction in organized and violent crime nationwide.

In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said that on November 1, 2024, operatives of the Force Intelligence Bureau – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) arrested Ogaga Dickson, 35, a member of a notorious armed robbery syndicate responsible for the death of CSP Hassan Jega, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho Division, Delta State.

CSP Jega was killed on October 14, 2024, during a gun battle with the syndicate after foiling a robbery operation.

He said the police operation led to the neutralization of four gang members.

Upon Dickson’s arrest, the police recovered one AK-47 rifle, one English pistol, a locally made pistol, various ammunition, and six exotic vehicles.

In a separate operation on December 2, 2024, police operatives apprehended a child-trafficking syndicate led by Pastor Dayo Bernard of End Time Army Ministry, Bukuru, Plateau State.

The operation resulted in the rescue of five children, aged 2-4, abducted from different homes in Jos, Plateau State, and the arrest of syndicate members Rita Agboeze, Victoria Ugwu, Nanman Puntel, and Peter Ukwuani.

The principal suspect confessed to abducting and selling 13 children, all of whom have been recovered and reunited with their families through the Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

Additionally, in line with the Inspector General of Police’s directive to eradicate illicit arms, FID-IRT operatives have successfully recovered 14 AK-47 rifles.

These operations underscore the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to combating crime and enhancing national security.
