The Bayelsa State Chapter of the Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has condemned the actions of one of its members, Comrade Elijah Pentecost, popularly known as Ras Natty Congoman, after he allegedly detonated a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) at the Bayelsa State Secretariat Complex.
In a statement signed by Comrade Tuebi Sapere-Obi, Governor of PMAN Bayelsa State Chapter, the union described the act as “unacceptable” and inconsistent with the values of peace, responsibility, and lawful engagement that the organization upholds.
The incident occurred around 6:00 a.m., triggering panic among civil servants, prompting evacuations, and leading to heightened security measures at the secretariat in Yenagoa.
Police confirmed the detonation of a suspected IED, but no lives were lost and no property was damaged. Pentecost Elijah, a 60-year-old from Otuan Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, was arrested at the scene and remains in custody undergoing interrogation by the Bayelsa State Police Command.
PMAN’s statement acknowledged the musician’s long-standing health challenges, including being an acid attack survivor, and his repeated but unsuccessful efforts to secure government assistance for medical treatment.
It alleged that funds had reportedly been approved or released for his care at some point but were never received by him. While these claims await verification, the union suggested that prolonged frustration over his unresolved medical condition likely drove his “regrettable and misguided actions,” rather than any intent to cause harm or destabilize government operations.

The association stressed that it does not justify the conduct, which involved an explosive device capable of inciting public panic at a government facility. Nevertheless, PMAN appealed to authorities for “compassionate consideration” and a “balanced approach that combines justice with mercy.”
“We remain committed to peace advocacy, public safety, and responsible civic conduct,” the statement read.
“While we unequivocally condemn such actions, we sincerely plead for leniency in this matter.”
Police have not released further details on the motive or the device’s exact nature, though investigations continue.
Pentecost’s identity as a performing musician affiliated with PMAN has drawn additional attention to the case, underscoring broader issues of individual grievances versus public safety in the state.
Authorities have yet to respond publicly to PMAN’s call for leniency.
