PHOTONEWS: Buhari arrives Mali, wears face mask for the first time

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Mali for a peace mission, wearing, fir the first time,  a face mask, at least in the public arena.

The President was, until his visit to Mali and his arrival in Bamako, the capital of that country, known to have received visitors and hosted virtual/physical meetings, including Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting without wearing a face mask.

He may have trusted so much in the health protocols and regime emplaced in the Presidential Villa since after the death of his firmer Chief of Staff, Malam Abba Kyari from complications of the COVID-19 infections.

That incident had put pressure on the Presidential Villa, particularly the first family.

The First Lady, Aisha and her children had cause to raise the alarm, and even resisted the President’s Private Assisrant, Tunde Sabiu, who reportedly travelled to Lagos and allegedly to London on a private jet but refused to observe the 14-day self isolation on his return to the Presidrntual Villa.

Abba Kyari’s death has instilled fear in the thecfirst family. Regardless, Presidrnt Buhari has not been paranoid about the COVID-19 pandemic. At least , he did not show it if he was.

Presidential protocol and the necessity to lead by example might have prevailed on President Buhari to wear a face mask when he stepped on the soil of Mali on Thursday, July 23.
